Vasundhara Raje Personal Information
She was born on 8 March 1953 in Bombay [now Mumbai] Maharashtra. Raje is the members of the prominent Scindhia Royal Maratha family. She is the fourth child of the late ruler of the Gwalior. Her father late Jivaji Rao Scindia and mother late Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia who was the political leader in the post-independence India. Her mother Vijayaraje Scindia entered politics after her husband’s death in 1961.

Vasundhara Raje finished her schooling at the Presentation Convent Kodaikanal Tamil Naidu. She graduated with Honours in Political Science and Economics from the Sophia College University of Mumbai. Her journey in Rajasthan is started with her marriage to the former ruler of Dholpur Maharaja Hemant Singh on 17 November 1972. The separated soon after the birth of their son Dushyant Singh.
Political Career of Vasundhara Raje
She went on to become an important leader of BJP’s. Raje’s older brother Madhavrao Scindia was a Politician. He was a loyal Congressman. He died in 2001. She has four sisters. They all are Indian Politicians.
Vasundhara Raje entered politics in 1984. She became a member of the National Executive of Bhartiya Janta Party[BJP]. In 1985 she was appointed as the Vice-President of the Yuva Morcha Rajasthan BJP. In the same year, she was elected as an MLA from Dholpur Constituency. In the Lok Sabha Elections, she was elected as an MP in 1989 and continued till 1991. She was re-elected as an MP from Jhalawar constituency in 1991 general elections. From 1996 to 1998 she served as an MP in the lower house of Parliament from Jhalawar Constituency. She was appointed as a minister of state in the Ministry of External Affairs after the party was elected to power in 1998 Lok Sabha Elections. She was named the Vice President of the Rajasthan wing of BJP in 1987. Due to this responsibilities, she got the wonderful opportunity to work directly with the PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee. In 1995 She was again elected as an MP for the next 5 years. In 2001 She was responsible for the works under the Department of Small Scale Industries, Administrative Reforms, Public Grievances and Departement of Space. Raje was elected as a leader of BJP State unit on 6 December 2003. She was sworn in as a first female CM of Rajasthan on 8 December 2003. She served as a CM till 2008. In the State Assembly 2013, the party was won by capturing 163 seats. She began her second term as a CM of Rajasthan.
Her son Dushyant Singh was elected to the Lok Sabha from her former constituency Jhalawar. Her biggest Rivals is Ashok Gehlot. She came in the major controversies. She has been attacked by opposition to helping Lalit Modi a former Premier league Administrator. Secondly, Raje and BJP came under a number of question marks to justify the mining lease of Aravalli Hills to companies which were closed to Congress. It raises the concern over the BJP’s seriousness on the Corruption and brought the controversy to the CM.
In 2007, She received the “Woman Together Award” by UNO. This award is given to her for the efforts to assist women in Self-Empowerment.
