UJALA stands for ‘Unnat Jeevan by Affordable LEDs and Appliances for All’. The chief minister of Jharkhand has launched the LED tube light and energy efficient fans under the Ujala Scheme in the state. After the distribution of about 85 Lakh LED bulbs in the state, LED tube lights and energy efficient fans will be given under the scheme. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Das said that Government of Jharkhand has distributed more than 85 lakh LED bulbs in the state.

ED bulbs and Tube Lights comes with three-year warranty while the energy efficient fans come with 2.5-year warranty under the scheme. The EESL would replace the bulbs, tube lights and fans free of cost under the warranty period if a technical problem occurs. This will be replaced through the same distribution outlets operating in the state.

The UJALA scheme was launched by the Prime Minister of India on January 5th, 2015 with a target of replacing 77 crore inefficient bulbs with Energy Efficient LED Bulbs by March 2019. Currently, over 20.50 crore LED bulbs, over 3lakh LED tube lights and over 2.30 lakh energy efficient fans have been distributed and 16.3 lakh LED street lights have already been replaced in the country. This is leading to a daily energy savings of more than 66 crore kWh and resulting in avoidance of over 5,416 MW of peak demand. Through the scheme, the estimated cumulative cost reduction in bills of consumers, per day is Rs 29.3 crores.

The schemes will help the government manage peak demand and reduce power outage. Also, it will mitigate climate change through the adoption of energy efficient appliances.

Under UJALA scheme consumers will be able to buy five high quality 20 W LED tube lights at ₹230 each and two energy efficient fans at ₹1,150 each respectively on an upfront basis. The consumers can also purchase 9W LED bulbs at ₹65 each. Each consumer can save over ₹2,500/- annually by adopting domestic energy efficient appliances.

  •  The UJALA scheme is being implemented by Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a JV under the administration of Ministry of Power, Government of India.
  •  In Jharkhand, EESL plans to distribute more than 25 lakh energy efficient LED tube lights and one lakh energy efficient fans to people on upfront payment.
  •  It is estimated that over 5.5 lakh consumers will benefit from the scheme.

ED bulbs have already proved to be the electricity and money savers for the consumers as well as the government. The distribution of the LED tube lights and fans would further help in saving the energy for peak demand and reducing energy bills for the consumers
