Sheetal | SarkariNiti T.R Zeliang is an Indian Politician and 12th Chief Minister of Nagaland a state in Northeast India since 2014. He was born on 21 Feb 1952 in the Mbaupungwa village of Peren District Nagaland. His father name is late. Rangleu Zeliang. Zeliang belongs to Schedule Tribe. He completed his schooling from Don Bosco High School Dibrugarh Assam. He completed his Graduation from the Arts College Kohima. He is married to Kevizenuo Rangkau.
During the college days, he was active in students politics. He was elected as a president of Zeliangrong Student Union. He served as the general secretary of its youth wings as well as action committee. He became the President of Peren District Youth Congress of the Indian National Congress.
TR Zeliang contested Nagaland Assembly Elections and lost in 1982. He again contested the Nagaland Assembly Elections and again lost in 1987. He contested the 1989 Assembly Elections on Naga’s People Council ticket and won the Tening assembly seat. He won from Tening as a Congress candidate in 1993, 1998 and 2003. Zeliang served as a minister of state for Information and Tourism in Nagaland Government during 1989-90. He was the minister of state for Relief and Rehabilitation from 1994 to 1998. During 1998-2003 he served as the minister of Environment and Forest Geology and Mining. From 2004 to 2008 he was the member of parliament to the Rajya Sabha from Nagaland. In 2008 he was appointed as the Minister for Planning, Animal Husbandry, Parliamentary Affairs under CM Neiphiu Rio. Zeliang won the 2008 and 2013 Nagaland Assembly Elections from Peren constituency and won. He then became the CM of Nagaland on 24 May 2014.
Zeliang was in controversy in the case of the fake affidavit regarding in his education is sub judice in the courts of the Judicial Magistrate First Class[MFC] Peren. His hobbies are Reading and Travelling.
