An Indian Politician Smriti Irani is the Current Union Minister of Textiles and Minister of Information and Technology. She worked as the Actress, Former Model, and Producer. She is one of the finalists in the beauty pageant contest of Miss India 1998. She became famous from the Star Plus daily soap KYUNKI SAAS BHI KABHI BAHU THI produced by Ekta Kapoor. She is the member of the BJP.

Smriti Irani was born on 23 March 1976 as Smriti Malhotra in Delhi. Her father Ajay Kumar Malhotra belongs to Khatri family Punjab and her mother Shibani Bagchi was Bengali. She has three sisters and Smriti is elder among them. She completed her schooling from Holy Child Auxilium School in Delhi then she graduated from Delhi University. She joined RSS in her school time. She got married in 2001 to the Parsi businessman Zubin Irani.  She has a son named Zohr who was born on 2001 October and a daughter named Zoish. She has a stepdaughter named Shanelle.

Smriti joined BJP in 2003 and appointed as the vice president of Maharashtra Youth Wing. In 2004 general elections she was contested as the BJP candidate from Chandni Chowk Constituency. She success in politics in 2010 when she was appointed as the national secretary of the party and also became the president of the party’s women’s wing. She became the member of Rajya Sabha from Gujarat in August 2011. She shows her dedication, hard work, and leadership skill in the party so, the BJP gave her a ticket and she was contested in the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections from Amethi UP against Rahul Gandhi. She was appointed in the Narender Modi’s cabinet as the HRD Minister. She became the youngest member of the Cabinet and became the Minister of Textile on 5 July. She became the Textile Minister after reshuffling the cabinet.

In her political journey, she was held into some important position. She became the member of the Rajya Sabha in 2011. She became the member of the Committee on Caol and Steel from Sept. 2011 to May 2014. She was appointed as the member of the consultative committee for the ministry of Urban Development and member of the Parliament Forum on Disaster Management in August 2012.

In 2014, She was in controversies for her educational qualifications. She was criticised for not taking the action of the suicide case of Dalit student Rohit Vemula from Hyderabad University.  She was also criticised for her decision to replace German with Sanskrit as the third language.

Smriti Irani got many awards and achievements. She got Indian Television Academy Award for her role as the Tulsi Virani in the serial KYUNKI SAAS BHI KABHI BAHU THE from 2001 to 2004. She got the same award in 2010.  In the years 2002, 2003 and 2006 she has Indian Telly Awards. She received Great Women’s Achiever Award in 2005. She was honored with the GARV INDIA TV AWARDS in 2014 for the best TV Personality of the Decade. She can speak many languages like English, Hindi, Gujarati, Bengali, and Marathi. In her struggling days, she also worked as the helper in Mcdonalds. She played a role of Sita in Ramayan on ZEE TV 2001.
