Tarlochan Singh Anand was an officer in the Indian Army and her mother was Amteshwar Anand.
Maneka Gandhi has completed her schooling from St Lawrence School Sanawar. She has graduated from Shri Ram College for Women in Delhi. She also studied German from Jawaharlal Nehru University. In 1989 the party won its first elections. In the 9th Lok Sabha, she was elected as the member in 1989. Then she became the independent charge of Union Minister of Environment and Forests in 1989. She was appointed as the Union Minister of State Programme Implementation in 1990. In 1996 She was re-elected as the member of the 11th Lok Sabha. She was elected as the member of the Committee on Science and Technology, Environment and Forests in 1996. She became the member of the 12th Lok Sabha in 1998. She was appointed as the Union Minister of Justice and Empowerment in 1998. She again elected the 13th Lok Sabha in 1999 and became the Union Minister of State, Social Justice, and Empowerment from October 1999 to September 2001. She became the Union Minister of State Programme Implementation and Statistic from 2001 to June 2002 with the Additional Charge of Animal Care. She became the member of the Committee of External Affairs in 2002. She was elected to 14th Lok Sabha and became the member of Health and Family Welfare, Ministry of Environment and Forests in 2004. She became the member of Committee on Railways in 2009 when she was re-elected to 15th Lok Sabha. She was appointed as a Union Minister for WOMEN AND CHILD DEVELOPMENT in 2014.
Maneka Gandhi played an important role as an ENVIRONMENTALIST. She became the chairperson of the committee who worked for the control of Scientific research and Experiments are conducted on animals in 1995. She also anchored a TV show HEAD AND TAILS which is related to animals. The books written by Maneka Gandhi are PENGUIN books of Hindu names, The Complete books of Hindu and Parsi names, The Penguin book of Hindu names for Girls, The Penguin book of Hindu names for boys, Brahma’s Hair, and Rainbows and many more.
Maneka Gandhi has received an award from RSPCA in 1992. She received an award in 1994 for the Environmentalist and vegetarian of the year award, Prani Mitra award in 1996, Maharana Mewar Foundation award in 1996, The Venu Menon Animal Allies Foundation Lifetime achievement award in 1999. In 2001 she received a woman of the year award from the International Woman’s Association in Chennai.
