He is the very popular politician and famous Personality of India. He was born on 5 July 1946 in Shaharbanni Khagaria, Bihar. His parents are Jamun Paswan and Siya Devi. He belonged Dalit [SC] family. He was married to Rajkumari Devi. She is the first wife of Paswan. He has two daughters from his first wife. He divorced his first wife in 1981. He remarried to Reena Sharma in 1983, who belongs to Punjabi family of Amritsar. He has one daughter and one son from his second wife. His son is Chirag Paswan.
Paswan completed his Bachelor’s and Masters from Kosi College from Pilkhi Patna University. He completed his LLB and D. Litt from Bundelkhand University Jhansi Madhya Pradesh. He also cleared Civil Service Exam and received a Post of DSP in SC quota. But he joined Politics as a member of Samyukta Socialist Party. He was promoted Dalits Hindus and Muslims families and considered as the leader of Dalits.
Paswan started his political career as a member of Samyukta Socialist Party. He became the member of Bihar Legislative Assembly in 1969. He was impressed and follow the politician Raj Narayana and Jaiprakash Narayana. He was appointed General Secretary in 1974 of Lok Dal. He was arrested during an emergency declared by PM Indira Gandhi in 1975. He releasing from jail in 1977. After releasing he joined Janta Party. He entered into Lok Sabha on the Janta Party Ticket in 1977. He won the election by a great margin from Hazipur Constituency. He was registered his name in GENIUS BOOK OF WORLD RECORD. He continuously won the elections of 1980, 1982, 1989, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2004, and 2014. He joined NDA again. He was the first leader of Dalit’s Caste who joined NDA. After the Gujarat Riots 2002, he left the party. He became the popular Dalit face in the Politics. He became the Union Cabinet Minister of Labour and Welfare in 1989 to 1991 under the V.P.Singh Govt. In the term of 10th Lok Sabha, he became the member of Business Advisory Committee Member in 1991 to 1996. He was appointed as a Railways Minister from 1996 to 1998. He became the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs on 29 June 1998. From 1998 to 1999 he became the member of Committee on Railways, Ministry of Home Affairs, and General Purpose Committee Member. In the 7th term of 13th Lok Sabha, he became the member from 1999 to 2004 on 13th October. He became the Union Cabinet Minister of Communication from 1999 to 1 September 2001. He became the Minister of Coal and Mines in 2001 to 29 April 2002. He also appointed as the minister of Chemicals & Fertilizers, Steel from 23 May 2004 to 22 May 2009 under the UPA Govt. He became the member of the Committee on Personnel and Public Grievances and Pensions and Ministry of Urban Development. in 2010 Sept. onwards.
In the Govt. of Narender Modi, he was appointed as the Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution in May 2014. Paswan is the founder of Lok Janshakti Party. He becomes its president in 2000. He also joined United Progressive Alliance Government in 2004. He was also known as a long served Parliamentarian in the Govt. of India. He is one of the successful people in the Politics.
