H.D Kumaraswamy presently elected from the Channapatna constituency. He is president of Janata Dal (Secular). He was born in Haradanahalli, Holenarasipura taluk of Hassan district, Karnataka. Now he is 58 years old and has a good political value which is come from his father H.D. Deve Gowda who is the 11th former prime minister of India. He completed primary education in a government school in Hassan district and then he moved to Jayanagar, Bangalore for his further studies and completed B.sc from there.
After completing his graduation, he entered in politics in 1996 and elected as a Lok Sabha member from Kanakapura(in Ramanagara district ) because of his father reputation his career in politics go fastly and On 4 February 2006 he became the 25th chief minister of Karnataka and served till 9 October 2007. Main year of his political life are:-
- 1998:- when he contested from Kanakpura and lost to M.V. Chandrashekara Murthy.
- 1999:- Contested unsuccessfully for a Sathanur assembly seat
- 2004:- Elected to represent the Ramangara assembly segment
- 2006:- Become the 24th prime minister of Karnataka
- 2009:- Re-elected to 15th Lok Sabha (2nd term)
- 2013:- Became the leader of opposition in the Karnataka legislative assembly
- 2014:- Elected as Karnataka state Janta dal president
- 2018:- Elected from the Channapatna constituency
