Ashok Gajapati started his political journey in 1978. He won as the Janta Party Candidate from Vizianagaram Vidhan Sabha Constituency. In 1982 when the Telugu Desam Party was formed he has joined it. He won continuously the State Assembly Elections of 1983, 1985, 1989, 1994, 1999, and 2009. He won the 16th Lok Sabha 2014 Indian General Elections from Vizianagaram. He appointed as the Cabinet Minister for Excise, Commercial Taxes, in the Cabinet of N.T Rama Rao’s. He also served as the Minister for Finance and Revenue Legislative Affair in the N.Chandrababu Naidu Cabinet.
Ashok Gajapati was the former president of the Andhra Cricket Association. He believes in the value-based politics and he shows his activities in the field of Public Health and Conservation of Electricity and Water. He launched a scheme of Health, Housing, and Drinking Water. His hobbies are Reading and Jogging.
