Sheetal | SarkariNiti Pinarayi Vijayan is an Indian Politician and current Chief Minister of Kerala. He is a member of Politburo of Communist Party of India. He was born on 24 May 1945. His real name is Vijayan. He was born in a poor family in Pinarayi Kannur Dist. Kerala. His birthday is on 21 March 1944 as per official records. His father’s name is Mundayil Koran and mother’s name is Kalyani. He is the youngest son of his parents. After completing his schooling he worked as a handloom weaver for a year. He was graduated from Government college Brennen College Thalassery.
Vijayan was married to Kamala Vijayan. She is a retired teacher. Vijayan has two children Veena and Vivek. His son works in HSBC Bank in Abu Dhabi and his daughter is in Banglore where she manages a website startup.
Vijayan entered into politics through Union activities at Govt. Brennen College Thalassery. In 1964 he joined Communist Party of India. He became a secretary of Kannur Dist. of Kerala Students Federation [KSF]. Later KSF becomes the Students Federation of India [SFI]. He became a state secretary and state president of KSF. Then he moved to Kerala State Youth Federation which later becomes a Democratic Youth Federation of India. Vijayan was imprisoned for one and half year for his political activities during the time when he was chosen as a president of the state committee. He was arrested and torched by police during the years of emergency. He became a secretary of Kannur Dist. after M.V Raghvan left the party. He became the member of State Secretariat within three years. During E.K Nayanar’s tenure as a Chief Minister of Kerala Vijayan was the minister of Electricity and Co-operatives from 1996 to 1998. He was elevated to the post of CPI[M] State Secretary on the death of Chadayan Govindan in 1998. He got elected CPI[M] politburo in 2002. Vijayan became the 12th Chief Minister of Kerala on 26 May 2016.
Vijayan also holds the charge of Home Affairs and Vigilance Departments. He introduced various schemes like Haritha Keralam Mission, Project LIFE, Ardram Mission and Comprehensive Education Reforms. He also introduced all-woman police squad called PINK PATROL in Kerala for the security of women and children in public places.
