A Pension Scheme for Senior Journalists

Senior journalists in Bihar may now enjoy the benefits of having a pension scheme which would come under the journalists of the State named as Bihar Patrakar Samman Yojana. This is an effort of the Bihar Government to modify the pension schemes for journalists already successively in the state. There are a few new amendments in the pension rules for the scheme that will be very effective and beneficial for the receivers.

The Chief Minister of Bihar Mr Nitish Kumar had directed the Information and Public Relation Department to retitle the pension scheme and make the necessary adjustments in the current rules of pensions so that the retired journalists eligible for a pension can avail the benefits.

The State Government has also asked for suggested ideas from journalists to propose some effective measures that can make the scheme more successful. The Government has also requested them to suggest a method that could be used for verifying the minimum 20 years working practice criteria in the field of journalism.

Benefits of Bihar Patrakar Samman Yojana

As per the present pension rules, each beneficiary would be granted a pension amount of INR. 5000 per month. A journalist who has crossed the age of sixty and has served as a journalist for more than 20 years will be eligible to avail of the pension scheme. Previously, some of the journalists had requested the State Government to increase the amount of pension but the request was declined from the Government’s side. The Bihar Patrakar Samman Yojana was planned and formed at the governance time of former Chief Minister of the State, Mr Jitan Ram Manjhi in February of 2015.

With the new projected amendments, there is surety that more journalists will be benefited from the scheme.
