One Rank One Pension Scheme – PDF, Pension Chart, Table, Contact Details

March 12, 2018 | By Rajesh Jindal | Filed in: Government Schemes.

One rank one pension scheme – One rank one pension scheme is also known as OROP. In other words, the OROP is basically “the same pension, for the same rank, for the same length of service, irrespective of the date of retirement”.  This is a demand that has been put forward by the Indian Armed forces and veterans. In the year 1973, this demand was first been put forward to the Congress government. The basic demand of the OROP is that irrespective of the date of retirement the pension should be provided according to the rank and position held in the armed forces. For example, suppose there is an officer who has served the army for fifteen years from 1970 to 1985 and there is another officer who has served the army from 2000 to 2015, now according to the demands of the OROP both the officers should get equal pension irrespective of their date of retirement. As the position and the rank held by them was same. The current prevalent system: –

  • In the prevalent system, the pension amount will get determined on the last salary is drawn.
  • The present system gives importance to the drawn salary and not to the time length of the service.
  • In the present system, a lieutenant general retired in 1995 is entitled to a pension amount that is ten percent lower than the amount sanctioned to the colonel who retires after 2006.
  • In a very similar fashion a jawan retired in the year 1995 will receive eighty percent less pension amount than the jawan who retires after January 1st
  • Therefore the basic demand of the OROP was to correct the anomaly in the system and obliterate all the inequality and disparity.

One Rank One Pension Scheme

Objectives

The major objective of One rank one pension scheme is to correct all the anomaly in the system and to correct any disparity and inequality in the system. As a matter of fact, the demand of OROP is not only limited to the equal pension scheme. The retired members of the armed force and the veterans have tried to present the pressing issue of justice, equality, national security, and honor. The protest and the movements increased and even escalated during the sixth central pay commission. During this time the ranks and the pay grades of the armed force members degraded very rapidly.

Benefits of One Rank One Pension Scheme

Irrespective of the retirement date all the army members and the veterans will be entitled to a pension according to his post. This specific scheme has been backed by the central government of India and the provision for increasing the expenses has been incorporated in the budget. The following are some of the benefits that the army personals will be entitled to this scheme: –

  • The retired personals will be able to manage their everyday expenses more conveniently and efficiently.
  • This scheme will no doubt increase the level of job satisfaction.
  • Most of the retired army members do not get the chance to re-join the army, therefore with the help of this scheme they will be financially independent and can meet with all the everyday expenses without any inhibition.
  • The scheme will provide numerous benefits and facilities to the army members who have retired due to an injury. This scheme will grant them the financial independence and will also provide many facilities to their family members.

Eligibility and Conditions applying for One Rank One Pension Scheme

All the retired army members and the veterans are eligible for this scheme. The retired members will face no red tape and any other official formality for this scheme. All the required documents and the necessary details will be automatically updated in the database of the government and the pension money will be granted accordingly.  The army is one of the most integral parts of the nation and the prime minister of India tried to deal with the entire scenario of unequal pay and disparity among pension schemes. Anyone who holds a position in the Indian military will be given the advantages of the OROP after retirement. But, the officers who have retired in the before 2006 will get the maximum benefits from this scheme. And if the concerned person is dying the family will be entitled to the amount, but only thirty percent instead of sixty. On the other hand, if the daughter or the son of a retired member is mentally he or she will get the amount even after they are married off.

Conclusion

One rank one pension scheme was to ensure that all the retired army personals and the veterans should get equal pension and other benefits and facilities from the government irrespective of their retirement year. If a person has served the army or any arm force for a number of years he should be entitled to the pension scheme according to his occupied rank. In the recent practices numerous perks and advantages were given to the personals who retired after 2006 but those who retired in the year 1995 and before were the most deprived of the perks and facilities and even received much low pension amount. The government of India sanctioned the demands and the One rank one pension scheme so that none of the military personals feels deprived and all of them can have the job satisfaction. The government has sanctioned the proposed a large amount so that there remains so inequality or disparity in the pension scheme. The protests and the marches by the retired personals finally paid off when the government agreed to pay heed to the demand and solve the grievances of the retired personals. This scheme ensures the financial independence of the retired personals and much more.
