N.Biren Singh is an Indian Politician and present Chief Minister of Manipur. His full name is Nongthombam Biren Singh. His father name is N. Khunjao Singh. He was a National level footballer turned Journalist. Soon, he turned to Politics and he joined the regional Democratic Revolutionary People’s Party in 2002. He was elected to the Manipur Legislative Assembly from Heingang constituency. Later Party merged with Congress before the 2004 Assembly Elections.
N.Biren Singh married to Heiyainu Devi and they have three children.
N.Biren Singh was born on 1 Jan 1963 in Imphal East, Manipur. His hometown is in Luwangsangbam Mamang Leikai. He is graduated in Arts from Manipur University. After completing his graduation he started his career as a footballer and get recruited in the Border Security force. He joined the BSF. He became the first Manipuri Footballer to play outside the state. He won the 1981 Durand Cup defeating Kolkata based famous team, Mohun Bagan. In 1982 He Quit the BSF.
N.Biren Singh was associated with the regional newspaper called Naharlogi Thougdang [Responsibilities of Youth] from 1993-2002. During the Editor of the newspaper, He was arrested for the statement in April 2002 which the police claimed was “anti-national and seditious”.
In the year 2002 Singh joined the Democratic Revolutionary Peoples Party and won the assembly elections from Heingang. He then joined INC [Indian National Congress] in 2003. He successfully retained the seat in 2007 State Elections. He was handed Youth Affairs & Sports and Minister of Flood Control and Irrigation in the State Government. He made a hat-trick by winning his seat again in the 2012 elections.
Singh was the spokesperson for the Manipur Government between 2007 to 2012. Later he became a Spokesperson of Congress. His relationship with the CM Okram Ibobi fell apart after he was excluded from the Cabinet in 2012. He was the Vice President of the Manipur Congress Committee. He left the Congress Party and then he joined BJP on 17 October 2016. He became the spokesperson and Co-convener of BJP’s Manipur Election Management Committee. He was elected as a leader of BJP Legislative Party in Manipur in March 2017. The BJP’s fought elections for the first time in Manipur and won by 12 out of 60 seats State Assembly with 32 Votes. He became a CHIEF MINISTER of Manipur on 15 October 2017. He is the first BJP CM in Manipur.
