Sheetal | SarkariNiti Manik Sarkar is an Indian Politician and current Chief Minister of Tripura. His name is pronounced as a Manik Shorkar in Bengali. He was born on 22 January 1949 in Radhakishorepur, Udaipur, Tripura. He was born into a middle-class family. He was graduated in B.Com from Maharaja Bir Bikram college Agartala Tripura in 1971. His father Amulya Sarkar was a tailor. His mother Anjali Sarkar was a government employee in Tripura. Manik Sarkar is married to Panchali Bhattacharya. She was worked with central social welfare board. She was retired in 2011. Manik Sarkar and his wife live a very simple life. Sarkar donates the salary that he received from his party. He gets 10,000 per month as an allowance. He is the only CM in India who as no house or no car in his name.
Manik Sarkar joined the Marxist Communist Party in 1968 at the age of 19 years. At the age of 23, he joined the state committee of Marxist Communist Party in 1972. He inducted into State Secretariat of CPI at the age of 29. He was elected as a member of legislative assembly from the Agartala Constituency in 1980. At the age of 34, he was elected to the assembly from the Krishnanagar, Agartala in 1983. He was appointed as a state secretary of CPI[M] at the age of 44. In 1988 he was elected from Dhanpur constituency. He became the member of Politburo of the CPI[M] in 1989. At the age of 49, He became the CM of Tripura for the first time. He has been elected to the same position for five consecutive times in 20 years.
Manik Sarkar is very particular about pranayama and exercise. He listens to classical music one hour every morning. He has no property, no land, no vehicle of his own. He is regarded as a CLEANEST and POOREST CM of India. He is serving long-term CM in Tripura since 1998. He is a good friend of Lal Krishan Advani. Sarkar said in an interview “My expenses are a small pot of snuff and a cigarette of a day”.
