The Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana is basically a Nation Fellowship Program which is initiated and funded by the Department of Science and Technology.The main aim of this initiative is to attract the extremely intellectual and intelligent youth towards science courses and research career.
The students who are willing to pursue or pursuing any under the graduate program under the distance education scheme or the correspondence course of some University and basically not eligibility for this fellowship. These fellowships are given to the Indian citizens to study in India. This is a very effective initiative to promote Research and development in the country.
Now, the fellowship program is divided among various streams and they have different eligibility criteria.
This Fellowship is basically for the student of class XI having science subjects and belonging to the academic year 2017-18. They need to get a minimum of 75% marks in Mathematics and Science subjects in their class 10th board examination. This percentage is 65% for the students belonging to SC, ST or PWD. There is a pre requirement before applying for this fellowship that’s the students who are willing to get the benefits of this program must have an undergraduate course in Basic Sciences. These include B.Sc. , B.S., B.Sat. , B. math, Int. M.Sc. , Int.M.S. and all. This should be in the academic year of 2019-20 after securing a minimum of 60% marks in Science subjects in the 12th standard or board examinations. This percentage is taken to be 50% for SC, ST or PWD. They will also be invited to the National Science Camp. The expenses of this camp and travel expenses also will be managed by the KVPY. The funds have been allocated according to the convenience of the students and to use their intellect in the best possible ways.
The students in the 12th standard belonging to the academic year of 2017-18 must have secured a minimum of 75% marks in maths and science subjects in the 10th board examination. These students are the ones aspiring to join the undergraduate programs in the Basic sciences like physics, chemistry, mathematics and biology including courses like B.Sc. , B.S., B. Sat. , B.Math. , Into. MSC. , INT. M.s. for the session of 2018-19. This percentage is 65% for SC, ST and PWD. Also, there should be a minimum of 60% marks in Mathematics and Science subjects ya in the 12th standard. This percentage is 50% for SC, ST and PWD. The subjects are physics, chemistry and biology.
The students of Cambridge International Examination board can also apply for this who belong to the second year. These are basically the students who are aspiring to join any of the undergraduate courses. The subjects can be Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology coming under the Basic Sciences. Programs like B.Sc. , B.S., B.Stat. , B.Math. , Int. M.Sc. , Int. M.S. is available under the same. They are eligible to apply if they have a minimum of 75% marks mathematics and science subjects in the 10th board examination. This percentage is 65% for SC, ST and PWD. Also, 60% is required in case of 12th board examination in the same subjects which 50% in case of SC, ST and PWD.
Students enrolled in the 1st year of the undergraduate program in Basic Sciences namely Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics & Biology leading to B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.S. during the academic year 2017–18 and having secured a minimum of 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE subjects (Physics/Chemistry/Biology) in the XII Standard Board Examination. In the 1st year final examination of B.Sc./B.S./B.Math./B.Stat./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.S. they must secure 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks before taking up the fellowship if awarded.
Empowerment initiative in the KVPY Fellowship Program
There are some additional fellowships exclusively for the students belonging to the SC and ST category. These will be operated in the various streams as stated above. Also, some of the additional fellowships will also be provided to people with disability.
Students enrolled in an undergraduate course in Basic Sciences, that is, B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.S. in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Cell Biology, Ecology, Molecular Biology, Botany, Zoology, Physiology, Biotechnology, Neurosciences, Bioinformatics, Marine Biology, Geology, Human Biology, Genetics, Biomedical Sciences, Applied Physics, Geophysics, Materials Science or Environmental Science are eligible for KVPY fellowship.
