Arun Jaitley is an Indian Politician and Lawyer. He is a current FINANCE MINISTER and Minister of CORPORATE AFFAIRS and MINISTER OF INFORMATION BROADCASTING in the cabinet of India.

Arun Jaitley Education

Arun Jaitley studied at St. Xavier’s senior secondary high school Raj Niwas Delhi from 1957 to 1969. He graduated with the honors degree in commerce from Shri Ram College New Delhi in 1973. From the year 1973 to 1977 he did his LLB from the Delhi University. He was a student leader of ABVP in the university campus. He became the president of Student Union of the Delhi University in 1974. In 1973 he took part in the movement against corruption launched by Jaya Prakash Narayan and Raj Narain in 1973. He was the convenor of the national committee for students and youth organization. He was also very active in the civil rights movements. After being released from jail he joined the Jan Sangh. He was appointed as the President of Delhi ABVP and All India Secretary of the ABVP.

Arun Jaitley has been practicing Law before the Supreme Court of India and several High courts in the country since 1977. In the year 1990, he was designated as a Senior  Advocate. In 1989 he was appointed as Additional Solicitor General by the V.P.Singh Govt. in 1989. He did the paperwork for the investigation into the Bofors Scandal. The politician L.K Advani of BJP, Madhavrao Scindia of INC, and Sharad Yadav of Janta Dal are their Clients. The HIGH COURTS of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Uttrakhand were inaugurated under his guidance. He has presented a paper on the law relating to corruption and crime in India before the INDO-BRITISH Legal Forum. He stopped practicing LAW since JUNE 2009.

He was born on 28 December 1952. His father Maharaj Kishen Jaitley was a lawyer and his mother Ratan Prabha was a social activist in New Delhi. He is married to Sangeeta Jaitley who is the daughter of former J&K finance minister Sh. Girdhari Lal Dogra since 24 May 1982. They have two children a son named Rohan and a daughter named Sonali. Arun Jaitley has two sisters.

Arun Jaitley Political career

In 1980 Jaitley became the President of the Youth Wing of the BJP. He became the member of the National Executive of BJP in 1991. He became the spokesperson of the BJP in 1998. In the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Govt. he became the Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting [independent charge] on 13 October 1999.  After the resignation of Ram Jethmalani, he was given the extra charge of Ministry of Law, Justice, and Company Affairs. He became the Cabinet Minister of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Company Affairs and Shipping in November 2000. He became the General Secretary of the BJP’s and its National  Spokesperson on 1 July 2002. He appointed as the Minister of Law and Justice and Commerce and Industry on 29 January 2003. On 3 June 2009, he was appointed as the leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha. He was one of the important leaders and strategic planner of BJP in 2014 General Elections. In the 2014 General Elections, he contested for the Lok Sabha Seat from Amritsar and lost to Amarinder Singh [INC Candidated]. After NDA Government came to power in 2014, he has been the Minister of Finance and Minister of Defence. In the Cabinet of Narender Modi Government, he became the Finance and Defence Minister on 26 May 2014.

Arun Jaitley introduced the 84th Amendment to the constitution of India successfully in 2002 for freezing parliamentary seats till 2026. He introduced the 91st Amendment to the constitution of India in 2004 successfully for penalizing defections. In 2003 he managed Assembly Elections in Madhya Pradesh and won along with Uma Bharti. He was appointed General Secretary in charge of elections to MCD Municipal Corporation of Delhi. He was appointed as the Vice-President of BCCI, but he resigned when the IPL match-fixing scandal unfolded. In Sept 2016 he announced the INCOME DECLARATION SCHEME 2016. As the Finance Minister of India, the government DEMONETISED the 500 and 1000 banknotes of the Mahatma Gandhi Series banned with the intention of CORRUPTION, BLACK MONEY, FAKE MONEY and TERRORISM from 9 Nov.2016. He reaffirmed that the GST rollout is well and truly on track on 20 June 2017. Arvind Kejriwal and Rahul Gandhi are his Biggest Rival. He played an important role during the talks for the WOMEN’S RESERVATION BILL in the Rajya Sabha and also supported ANNA HAZARE for the JAN LOKPAL BILL. He has represented many multinationals such as PEPSICO, COCA-COLA in the Courtroom. He also represented big industrialist such as the Birla family in the Courtroom.
